An ornamental grass similar to sweetgrass. It can be found growing in meadows, hay fields, wetlands and disturbed soils. Like woodruff and sweetgrass, it has a sweet vanilla aroma that is released when dried or wilted.
A tincture of its flowers is said to give relief from hay fever.
Loves full sun. Blooms in July and August. It produces flowering shoots and bladed grass up to 3 ft. tall.
Do NOT grow where cattle may eat it. Native to Asia and Africa.
