'Detroit Red' Beet seeds, Beta vulgaris, NightShade Farm, 2 sizes
Biennial. 55 days to eating size. High yields and easy to grow. Organically grown by Shaman Don, but not certified.
Detroit dark red produces intensely blood red roots. They can be harvested at any stage, from small to large, and will remain solid and delicious even when allowed to grow into huge monsters. They flower and produce copious seeds in the second year.
Direct seed in the spring by making a shallow furrow in a good seedbed, sprinkling in the seeds, barely covering, and tamp and keep moist until germination, which is rapid. Thin to four inches apart.
The leaves are excellent for eating, being similar to chard only better tasting, and can be steamed or juiced fresh or used as a pot veggie.
About 50 seeds per gram. Over 1,000 seeds per ounce.
