AKA Curly Cress, Chandrasur. Garden cress is a fast growing annual herb that is native to Egypt and west of Asia, and presently it is cultivated in all over the world for its mild 'cressy' flavor. Dark green strap-like leaves with tiny teeth around the margins, 2-6” long. A delicious and nutritious green. Original parent seed stock is from Iran.
Garden cress is added to soups, sandwiches and salads for its tangy flavor. It is also eaten as sprouts, and the fresh or dried seed pods can be used as a peppery seasoning (haloon). In the United Kingdom, cut cress shoots are commonly used in sandwiches with boiled eggs, mayonnaise and salt.
it is considered as an important medicinal crop in India. Cress is widely used in folk medicine for treatment of hyperactive airways disorders, such as asthma, bronchitis and cough.
