Dong quai is an herb that has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years to nourish blood and treat menstrual and menopausal symptoms, cardiovascular conditions, osteoarthrosis, inflammation, headache, infections, mild anemia, fatigue and high blood pressure. It is often called female ginseng and itcontains coumarin.

Dong quai grows in nearly any moist area, such as the edge of a lake or stream. It prefers full sun to partial shade, and is often grown in semi-shady spots or woodland gardens with plenty of water. Dong quai is hardy in US Zones 5-9. Plant dong quai angelica seeds directly in the garden in spring or fall.
