Perennial creeping plant with very showy purple leaves and upright cone-like flowers. Used by the Mayans and Aztecs for centuries; native from Mexico to South America. Does well in containers or hanging over a wall. Largely used as a natural sweetener similar to stevia, but without the aftertaste.
