~100 Tulsi Holy Red Basil seeds, Ocimum sanctum, Ram Tulsi, India
Culinary/Medicinal/Beverage/Aromatic. (Rama tulsi) The true sacred basil grown in houses, gardens and near temples all over India. Mildly intoxicating clove-scented leaves are used in salads and other cold dishes. Attractive reddish leaf form of sacred basil.
Native to the Indian sub-continent and long considered sacred. Distinctly fragrant Tulsi basil that makes a great salad enhancer. The whole leaves are crisp and clove flavored, very cooling in a summer salad. The immature bite-sized buds and their matched pair of leaves are a beautiful topping for salads or desserts. Much better adapted to cool weather than other basil varieties. Makes a terrific herbal tea.
Tulsi is cultivated for religious and medicinal purposes, and for its essential oil. It is widely known across the Indian subcontinent as a medicinal plant and a herbal tea, commonly used in Ayurveda, and has an important role within the Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism, in which devotees perform worship involving holy basil plants or leaves. This plant is revered as an elixir of life.
