Tanacetum coccineum. Perennial flower that contains pyrethrins, a potent and natural insecticide. Pyrethrin is considered acceptable as a pesticide for use in USDA certified fields. This perennial should be more widely known and grown. The intensely red petals make these a focal point in the garden, especially grown in masses. Begins blooming the second year, very attractive for butterflies and makes a long lasting cut flower. Blooms in late spring, and if cut back in early summer will re-bloom through July. Leaves are medium green with fern-like pinnate dissections.

Do not cover seeds; seeds germinates in seven to 28 days. Pinch tips for bushier plants.

In general, daisies are grown for masses of reliable blooms in late summer and autumn.
