Perennial. Native to the Northern Caucasus. A pretty plant, with showy, dangling flowers giving way to shiny black berries. Plant prefers part shade and rich, moist soil. Plant prefers partial to full shade, average fertility, moist soil. Sow in early spring. Slow and erratic germination. Best in cool, moist shady areas. Sprinkle seed on surface, tamp securely, and keep evenly moist until germination. Dies back in winter after first frost.
A Wicca standard. Rumored to be part of the famous Witch's "Flying Formula." Contains atropine.
Well drained soil, part to mostly shade (protect from afternoon sun), medium water needs. Allow up to two months for full germination.
