Hardy to Zones 4 to 9. AKA: Official Lobelia, Indian Tobacco, Pukeweed.

Herbaceous perennial. Native to the central, southern, and eastern US. 

Common Name: Cardinal flower 

Height: 2.00 to 4.00 feet

Bloom Time: July to September

Bloom Description: white with blue spots, or rose

Sun: Full sun to part shade

Water: Medium to wet

Maintenance: Low

Suggested Use: Naturalize, Rain Garden

Attracts: Hummingbirds, Butterflies

Tolerates: Rabbit, Deer, Wet soil


Light-dependent seeds. Sow seed in spring or fall. Sprinkle seed on surface, tamp lightly, and keep evenly moist and in the light until germination. Water gently. Naturally germinates in the fall.

Traditional usage: Antispasmodic, purgative.
