Astragalus; Herbaceous perennial native to China and long used for its medicinal properties. 

Plant is a tough survivor, and prefers full sun, average soil, and good drainage. Scarify seed lightly and soak overnight in kelp tea, which encourages nitrogen-fixing nodulation. Direct seed in early spring. Germinates in 3 to 10 days. Thin to 12 inches apart.

Plants get up to six feet tall, with yellowish flowers turning into pea-like follicles.

Traditional Chinese Medicine usage is to increase vital energy and protect against illness. China
