Rare Tibetan variety, first collected in 1924 in the Himalayas. Naturally hull-less variety, easy to grow, good drought tolerance. Beautiful purple seeds turn reddish-brown after cooking.

Plant in spring in colder areas, or in fall in areas with mild winters. Plant barley like spring wheat; it is tolerant of cool spring temperatures, as the earliest-seeded crops provide the best yields. Barley matures earlier than spring wheat, and is comparable to corn in protein content; a good choice for organic growers under conditions that make corn a challenging crop. Tolerates a wide range of soil pH, from 5.0 to 8.0.
