Twining annual found throughout India. Grown for seed pods and its young leaves which are used as vegetable and fodder. Ayurvedic medicinal herb used traditionally as a nerve tonic. Seeds are a natural storehouse of L-dopa, a precursor of the neural transmitter, dopamine. In a recent clinical trial Parkinson's sufferers treated with crushed seeds regained some mobility with fewer side effects than conventional drugs.
