60-80 days. Groundcherry pepper. Shishito peppers are a Japanese heirloom pepper with a crisp, fruity sweet flavor, and just a tiny hint of heat and smokiness that is brought out by cooking them. Popular in Japan where its thin walls and few seeds make it particularly desirable for tempura. Also delicious in stir fries or sautés. Thinly sliced, the red fruits are excellent raw in salads and coleslaw, adding color and flavor. Throughout Asia, the peppers are normally cooked green. Large, upright plants produce good yields over an extended harvest period.

Average 3 1/2-4" heavily wrinkled fruits are thin walled; mild when green with more sweetness when red.
