Grown since the 1920s by Mrs. Clifton of Carlsbad, New Mexico. In the 1950s she gave some seeds to Janet Burns, who somehow got her name on the variety. Called 'Mrs. Burns' for years, it should be called Mrs. Clifton's Lemon Basil. We just call it an heirloom, with a century of cultivation now.
Intense citrus aroma, popular for vinegar and seafood dishes. Plants are 12-18" tall with a neat habit, small green leaves, and white flowers. Dries nicely. The finest strain of lemon basil available. Annual. Sow in temps above 65 F.
