1 g. Evening Primrose seeds, Oenothera biennis
Biennial. Easy to grow. Evening Primrose Oil contains gammalinolenic acid (GLA), a precursor of prostaglandin E1. The latter is very active biologically in regulating the immune system. By supplementing the diet with GLA, one may bypass a blockage of prostaglandin E1 production caused by aging, poor diet or alcoholism. Widely used now for PMS. The oil also has a positive effecton heart and vascular diseases.
Roots can be eaten as a vegetable; shoots as a salad. Has high GLA content. The Native Americans boiled and ate the root, and also used a poultice (made from the leaves) for bruises and hemorrhoids.
Flowers only at night or on cloudy days. Hundreds of seeds per gram. No not cover seeds with soil; just rake and sprinkle.
