Perennial flower that contains pyrethrins, a potent and natural insecticide. Pyrethrin is considered acceptable as a pesticide for use in USDA certified fields.
The flowers, typically white with a yellow center, grow from numerous, fairly rigid stems, producing an umbrella-shaped or flat canopy. Plants have blue-green leaves.
The centers of the flowers contain more pyrethrins than the outer petals. Harvest at full development 5-9 days following the first flower. Considered to be among the safest insecticides in the world, although it will also kill honey bees.
T. cinerariifolium is called the Dalmatian chrysanthemum, denoting its origin in that region of the Balkans (Dalmatia). It looks more like the common daisy than other pyrethrums.
